West Brom have parted company with head coach Valerien Ismael, with Steve Bruce set to replace him in the hot seat, 90min understands.

Ismael departs with the Baggies fifth in the Championship table, 13 points off leaders Fulham. West Brom have also won just once in their last five league games.

Ismael's exit was confirmed via a statement on the club's official website.

"West Bromwich Albion Football Club can confirm Valerien Ismael has today left his position as head coach," it read.

"Assistant head coach Adam Murray has also departed The Hawthorns.

"The club would like to place on record its thanks to Valérien and Adam for their efforts and wishes them well in the future.

"The process of recruiting a new head coach is now under way and an appointment will be announced in due course."

90min understands that the Baggies have already identified Ismael's replacement – former Newcastle man Bruce. Sources have indicated that he is set to accept the position after just a few months away from the game.

Bruce is set to be handed a short-term deal initially with options to extend his stay at The Hawthorns. He should be appointed before the weekend too, although West Brom do not have a fixture due to their early exit from the FA Cup at the hands of Brighton.

Provided there are no late surprises, Bruce's arrival will mean he has managed three of the West Midlands' biggest clubs: Aston Villa, Birmingham City and now West Brom.
