Man Utd interested in summer move for Southampton star Danny Ings

Manchester United are in the market for another striker this summer, and they are considering a move for Southampton star Danny Ings.

The Red Devils have already managed to extend key forward Edinson Cavani's contract by another season, but they may not be finished there when it comes to bolstering their attacking lineup for next year.

And The Telegraph reports that Ings is a genuine target for United this summer, after his goalscoring heroics over the past two campaigns have proven him to be a clinical forward at the elite level.

Ings scored 22 Premier League goals in the 2019/20 season, and despite suffering several injuries this year, he has still managed to notch an impressive 12 goals in the league. He has been hindered by Southampton's poor form in the second half of the season, and with Manchester City also linked with a move for the 28-year-old, he could be ready to depart for pastures new.

The ex-Liverpool forward has only one year remaining on his current contract, and with little sign of a new deal on the horizon, Southampton are readying themselves for a number of bids this summer. Saints will be aware that they risk losing Ings for nothing at the end of the 2021/22 season, and the striker's value continues to drop with each passing month.

The Red Devils have 'made enquires' into Ings' situation, and they know that any formal offer will force the south coast club into action.

Solskjaer even confirmed after Man Utd's 1-1 draw with Fulham that it was impossible to rule out the arrival of another top striker, hinting that there may in fact be some summer activity in the transfer window.

“Of course Edi [Cavani] signed but how many good strikers have we had at this club?” said Solskjaer.

“I can’t say we’re not signing a striker.”
