Liverpool unveil new Bill Shankly-inspired home kit for 2021/22 season

Liverpool have unveiled their all-new home kit for the 2021/22 season, drawing inspiration from the days of legendary boss Bill Shankly and the roots of the famous red shirt.

Shankly was in charge when Liverpool first changed to a red shirt, insisting 'red is for danger and red is for power', with the team going on to win their first ever FA Cup that year.

The iconic manager wanted Liverpool to have a psychological edge over their opponents through their kit, and that has been the inspiration for this all-new strip, which has seen Nike throw red on red to create a powerful, stand-out shirt.

Both the men's and women's teams have been handed a shirt with bolted pinstripes and bright crimson sleeve cuffs and neckline, all of which are said to represent the 'power, energy and danger' which Shankly was looking for.

To continue the retro theme, the Liverpool crest and Nike swoosh are both fossil coloured - something seen in kits of the 1990s.

“It’s great to see the perfect blend of our heritage and Nike’s product innovation for our new home kit," said Virgil van Dijk. "Being part of the swoosh family for years, they’ve been at the forefront of sustainable design and it goes a long way into making our sport a greener one. I can’t wait for the fans to see it in person next season.”

On top of an iconic design, this Liverpool kit will also give back to the environment. It is made using 100% recycled polyester fabric, which comes from old plastic bottles which have been cleaned and melted down as part of Nike's 'Move to Zero' campaign.

As revealed on the club's official website, this new kit will get a taste of action before next year, with Jurgen Klopp's men set to debut it in front of fans at Anfield in the final-day tie with Crystal Palace on Sunday.

On top of the new kit, fans may also be able to get a glimpse of the all-new training range, which has also been released for pre-order ahead of the general sale on June 3.
