Monica Puig progresses to second round of Hong Kong Tennis Open

Puerto Rico's Monica Puig dispatched Thailand's Luksika Kumkhum for the loss of just three games in the first round of the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open.

Puig, the world number 92, claimed a 6-1 6-2 win in one hour and five minutes.

Spain's Lara Arruabarrena also booked her place in the next round in routine fashion thanks to a 6-4 6-3 victory over Irina Falconi of the United States.

Elsewhere, Kazakhstan's Yaroslava Shvedova beat Australia's Jarmila Gajdosova 6-4 6-4, Anastasia Rodionova of Australia was a 6-4 7-5 winner over French qualifier Irina Ramialison, Russian lucky loser Anastasiya Komardina defeated Taiwan's Chang Kai-chen 6-4 7-5 and Taiwan's Lee Ya-hsuan beat fellow qualifier Jang Su-jeong of South Korea 6-3 6-1.
