The Lawn Tennis Association says it is making positive progress as it seeks a new performance director in the wake of Bob Brett deciding to leave the organisation.
Veteran Australian coach Brett, who has previously worked with Boris Becker and Goran Ivanisevic, has resigned as director of player development at the LTA and officially departs at the end of this month.
Brett spent just over a year in his position and LTA chief executive Michael Downey will lead the senior high performance tennis staff in the interim until a successor to Brett is appointed. That means taking responsibility for the likes of head of men's tennis Leon Smith and head of women's tennis Jeremy Bates.
In a statement, the LTA said: "The LTA has commenced a search for a new performance director which is progressing well."
Although the job title is different to that which Brett has had, it is expected to be a similar role.
Brett said of his exit: " I have enjoyed my time at the LTA working with some very talented players, coaches, sports science and sports medicine experts. I wish them all the very best in the future. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the LTA board for the opportunity that they have given to me during this period."
Downey said: "Despite a relatively short tenure at the LTA, Bob has made a difference in improving our nation's chances for greater success."
