Caroline Wozniacki battled her way into the quarter-finals of the Connecticut Open with a hard-fought victory over qualifier Roberta Vinci.

Wozniacki, seeded third at a tournament where she has enjoyed great success, prevailed 6-4 6-7 (6/8) 7-6 (9/7) in a contest which lasted just shy of three hours in New Haven.

Seventh seed Agnieszka Radwanska eased through with a 6-4 6-2 win over Alize Cornet, a relatively straightforward victory given the problems Cornet has given her in the past - including a lengthy battle at the Rogers Cup in Toronto a fortnight ago.

"We always play around two, three hours. In Toronto it was two and a half hours," Radwanska said on the WTA website. "So when I see that name next to mine in the draw I'm like, 'Oh my god, no! Another three hours!'

"I'm just very happy I could close that match in two sets; it means I'm playing really good tennis."

Radwanska will next face second seed Petra Kvitova, who beat Madison Keys 4-6 6-1 6-2.

Fifth seed Karolina Pliskova also advanced with a 6-4 6-1 win over Olga Savchuk.
