Dortmund Chief Offers Update on Jadon Sancho's Future as Man City Turn Down First-Refusal Option

Borussia Dortmund's sporting director Michael Zorc has ruled out selling Jadon Sancho during the January transfer window.

The 19-year-old's short-term future at the club has been called into question after a number of off-field issues which briefly saw him get internally suspended, prompting links with Manchester United and Liverpool before the transfer window re-opens.

While he's is still expected to leave Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season, Zorc is adamant that there isn't a 'scenario' where Sancho could leave the club next month.

"We’re continuing to plan with him," Zorc said, quoted by The Manchester Evening News. "He’s a fundamental player for us and I do not see any scenario where he leaves us.

"We have already had some situations with him to talk about, and there have been a lot of interviews in the last few weeks.

"We are in a good way; when he came off the bench in Barcelona and also in Berlin, he gave us a top performance."

Although Zorc's comments will be a blow for clubs who wanted to sign Sancho next month, the England international's former club will not be part of the race for his signature at the end of the season.

The Mirror claims Manchester City are not interested in re-signing Sancho ahead of the 2020/21 season, opening up the possibility of a bidding war next summer.

The Premier League champions had negotiated a deal with Borussia Dortmund which would see them get first refusal over Sancho's future if they matched any offer for him.

But even with Leroy Sané expected to join Bayern Munich next season, Manchester City are happy with their current crop of players and don't want to re-sign a player who went AWOL just before moving to Germany.

Although there have been problems off the pitch, Sancho has continued his fantastic form on it and he's been involved in 19 goals across all competition this season - more than any other player at Borussia Dortmund - while winning the club's Player of the Month award for November.
