Formula One driver Max Verstappen passes driving test

Formula One driver Max Verstappen has become legal to drive a car on the road on the same day he celebrated his 18th birthday.

The Dutchman, who races for the Toro Rosso team, has competed in 14 grands prix but until Wednesday was unable to drive legally on public roads.

Verstappen, who also has Belgian nationality, put that right by passing his test at the first attempt and then posted a photograph of him at the wheel of a car with the following message: "Legal to drive. Born to race! #driverlicense."

Fellow F1 driver Romain Grosjean, who on Tuesday confirmed he was leaving Lotus to join new team Haas for the 2016 season, also posted a message of congratulations.

It read: "Happy birthday @Max33Verstappen ! You do actually have the right to drive a car now. Wish you a good one."
