Josh Brookes scorched inside the Cadwell Park lap record to take pole position for the eighth round of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship.
The Australian powered in a lap of one minute and 26.433 seconds aboard his Milwaukee Yamaha, half a second clear of the rest to top qualifying for the third time this season.
Brookes, the winner of the previous four races, has a lead of 12 points over the defending four-times title winner Shane Byrne who faces an uphill struggle in these races.
PBM Kawasaki rider Byrne has struggled with handling problems all weekend and will start from the fourth row of the grid.
