American Jimmy Walker won two of the last three holes as he and Rickie Fowler halved with Europe's Martin Kaymer and Thomas Bjorn in Friday's second Ryder Cup fourball match.

The European duo never trailed but settled for only half a point when 2-up with three holes to play as Ryder Cup newcomer Walker chipped in for birdie at 16 and sank a six-foot birdie putt at the par-5 18th to win the hole and halve the match.

Walker, 35, had also made a stunning eagle chip-in to win the par-5 ninth for the Americans. Bjorn chipped in for birdie to win the 13th to restore the 2-up European lead, setting the stage for Walker's late rookie heroics.

"It was a pretty even match. We just have to take it on the chin," Bjorn said. "It's obviously disappointing when you are up all day but we have to be happy to take half a point."

Reigning US Open champion Kaymer and Denmark's Bjorn, in his first Ryder Cup since 2002, dominated early.

Germany's Kaymer opened with a birdie after putting his approach four feet from the cup and Bjorn sank a five-foot birdie at the par-5 second.

Kaymer followed with a 20-foot birdie putt to win the par-3 fourth before Fowler answered with a birdie to take the fifth.

"We were up all day. Started out very well. They came back but I think it was an OK match," said Kaymer, who failed to close out the US pair my missing birdie putts at the last two holes.

"I had a chance at 17 and 18 to close it. Disappointing I didn't make the putts."
