Europe are seeking an unprecedented fourth consecutive Ryder Cup victory when they take on the United States at Hazeltine National Golf Club.

Here Press Association Sport looks at their previous three wins.

CELTIC MANOR 2010: EUROPE 14 1/2 USA 13 1/2

A historic match in that it is the only Ryder Cup to go into Monday after heavy rain affected Friday and Saturday. Another first saw all 24 players on the course at the same time as organisers attempted to get the schedule back on track in sessions two and three spread over the weekend. Pivotal to Europe's success was the third session of two foursomes and four fourballs which they won 5 1/2-1/2, led by Lee Westwood and Luke Donald who demolished Tiger Woods and Steve Stricker 6&5 as Europe took a 9 1/2-6 1/2 lead into Monday. It eventually came down to the final match in which Graeme McDowell beat Hunter Mahan 3&1 after the American conceded defeat on the 17th hole.

MEDINAH 2012: USA 13 1/2 EUROPE 14 1/2

Forever to be known as the Miracle of Medinah, Europe snatched victory from the jaws of defeat with a brilliant display in the singles. Ian Poulter began the comeback on the Saturday as five birdies over the final five holes earned him and Rory McIlroy a victory over Jason Dufner and Zach Johnson to make the score 10-6. It still required Europe to match the biggest last-day comeback to win but Poulter was again influential as the visitors won the first five singles match to crucially turnaround the momentum. The US team wilted in the face of a European onslaught and Martin Kaymer holed the putt which meant they retained the trophy and Tiger Woods' generous offer of a half to Francesco Molinari secured victory.

GLENEAGLES 2014: EUROPE 16 1/2 USA 11 1/2

The opening two days were typified by the United States gaining a slender morning advantage only for Europe to hit back even stronger in the afternoon. Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed won both their fourball matches as the USA edged both fourballs sessions. However, Europe were dominant in foursomes winning both sessions in a combined seven to one to hold a commanding 10-6 lead heading into the final-day singles. Rory McIlroy got Europe off to a flier with a 5&4 demolition of Rickie Fowler and his team-mates followed his lead with Jamie Donaldson finishing it off against Keegan Bradley with a brilliant approach to two feet at the 15th.
