Ryder Cup blunder of the day

Dustin Johnson, second shot, 16th hole, fourballs:

The US Open champion and world number two had outdriven rival Rory McIlroy on the 572-yard par-five and looked in prime position to continue a charge which had seen him and Matt Kuchar claw back two shots in the previous two holes to set up a nervy finish. However, McIlroy turned the tables by ramping up the pressure with a brilliant approach to 20 feet and Johnson, last to play, dumped his in the greenside lake - blaming mud on his ball despite no television evidence to support his claim - to ultimately lose the hole and the match.
