Stalemate at the DW

Wigan and Doncaster played out an entertaining goalless draw at the DW Stadium.

Doncaster started the brighter and could have been ahead in the second minute.

Andy Williams played the ball back intelligently to Harry Forrester, whose shot flew inches past the far post.

Wigan almost scored with their first real opportunity, too, with Chris McCann winning a free-kick on the edge of the Rovers area. Michael Jacobs lined up the set-piece, which flicked the bar on its way over the top.

The visitors were enjoying the best of the opening half, and created two wonderful chances to edge in front.

Both times, Wigan were indebted to Richard O'Donnell for keeping them on level terms, the goalkeeper saving superbly from first Williams and then Forrester.

Wigan had another let-off after the break when, after a mix-up between David Perkins and O'Donnell had conceded a corner, the former made amends by clearing Gary MacKenzie's header off the line.

The home side tried to rally themselves in the final quarter and dangerman Jacobs almost created something for Will Grigg, his delightful cross from the right rolling through the corridor of uncertainty and behind for a goal-kick.
