Transfer Watch: Liverpool Inter midfielder target to be pushed through

With Brendan Rodgers confirmed as the Liverpool manager for another season and with a midfield replacement for Steven Gerrard identified as the priority it seems that a deal for Inter midfielder Mateo Kovacic could be given fresh impetus.

The Croatian international was valued at €25m, a price which initially stalled negotiations but according to Gazetta dello Sport the fact that Rodgers is staying will restart negotiations to bring the player to Anfield.

The report claims that the Reds will be more amenable to meeting the Inter Milan valuation and get the deal done. The 21-year-old joined Inter in 2013 from Croatian giants Dinamo Zagreb where he started his senior career and developed as a youth prospect.

The player is considered a versatile midfielder having played in an advanced midfield role at Zagreb and then in a deep-lying playmaker role at Inter with great technical ability. The player has become known for spanning both areas in runs were he takes the ball from deep and then drives forward and it’s easy to see why Rodgers has an interest in this player.

Kovacic has made a total of 97 appearances for Inter, scoring 8 goals and assisting with 10.
