Spurs look to provide sweetener for Schneiderlin swoop

Reports coming out of the Daily Star suggest that Tottenham Hotspur are looking to help Southampton close an increasingly awkward chapter with wantaway Morgan Schneiderlin. Schneiderlin has been critical of the Saints desire to close the gate on further transfers as he too looks to complete a move away from Southampton to the London club.

Spurs have been strongly linked with 24-year-old French midfielder and according to the report will be happy to provide a ready replacement in Nacer Chadli to sweeten the deal. Mauricio Pochettino does not see a future at White Hart Lane for the 25-year-old Belgium winger who joined Spurs from FC Twente last season for £7m.

Nacer did struggle to make much impact as part of the squad, making just 23 appearances and scoring a single goal against Newcastle. The midfielder was named in the Belgium squad for the 2014 World Cup and played in their 2-1 win over Algeria. Chadli is considered a versatile player who is comfortable with both feet making him an option for either wing or as a number 10.

Spurs had a bid rejected last week for Schneiderlin who has made it clear he wants to go. Southampton have put a £27m value on the player according to the Mirror who also believe that Spurs will make an improved offer for the player closer to the £20m mark.

Morgan Schneiderlin made his debut at the World Cup in the 0-0 draw with Ecuador after making his debut in a friendly game with Jamaica prior to the tournament. The midfielder was originally just on the standby list but made the final 23 after injuries to Ribery and Grenier.
