Southampton ready to go Dutch with Sneijder rescue bid

The Saints are slight favourites to gain the services of wantaway Galatasaray midfielder Wesley Sneijder. The midfielder who has long been a target for Manchester United but instead joined the Turkish outfit finds himself too expensive. His club are struggling with financial debts and have failed to pay the Dutch master on time on a number of occasions say reports in the Mail.

Sneijder is said to earn £2.5million-a-year and Galatasaray are said to be receptive to approaches to acquire the player in order to lower their crippling wage bill. The Mail claim that United and Southampton have been alerted to the players availability and the clubs desire to offload in the January window.

Galatasaray have valued Sneijder at £9million and advisers to the Chairman tasked with stabilising the clubs precarious financial position are actively identifying interested parties.

Ronald Koeman is thought to be tempted to bring Sneijder in via the January window as he looks to fight for a European spot in the second half of the season. Van Gaal, who worked with Sneijder during the World Cup is also understood to be interested but you wonder where he would actually be used at United unless there were injuries which wouldn’t suit Sneijder.

Manchester United are looking increasingly secure in third place in the Premier League and may even think they are not out of the running for the title if they can find greater consistency. Southampton on the other hand are navigating a difficult spell and have dropped outside of the top four and are now equal on points with sixth placed Arsenal.
