Alan Pardew left Crystal Palace 'legend' Mile Jedinak out of the starting line-up at Chelsea so he could gauge his other players.
Australia international and Palace captain Jedinak was an unused substitute as Palace lost 1-0 and the Blues clinched the Premier League title.
"I just felt the players I assembled would be right for this particular game," Pardew said.
"He's a legend at our place. I know exactly what he can do, but I do need to find out (about) one or two others before the end of the season.
"I need to make some decisions on futures. (Adrian) Mariappa got a game. Joe Ledley got another game in midfield.
"These are players that I need to see and understand if they can cope."
Jedinak was banned for four matches for violent conduct against West Ham on February 28 but has been able to secure his place in the starting XI since.
In the four games since being available again, Jedinak has started three times, although he was substituted at half-time against West Brom after Palace went behind early on.
Asked if Jedinak's long-term future was in doubt, Pardew said: "Not at all."
Palace have lost three in a row - to the Baggies, Hull and Chelsea - and complete the season by playing at home against Manchester United and Swansea, either side of a trip to Liverpool.
