Borussia Dortmund centre-back Neven Subotic has announced he is looking to leave the Bundesliga club this summer.

Commenting on his Facebook page, the Serbia international wrote that he intends to leave the club he has been associated with for eight years but did not provide any details on a future move.

Despite signing a three-year contract last summer, Subotic suffered injury problems and fell down the pecking order during the past campaign, making just 11 appearances under head coach Thomas Tuchel.

Subotic wrote: "Dear friends, last year I realised that my love of football in an active role on the pitch is too big to just be able to see it from the outside.

"I am now at the best age for a footballer and naturally want to use this time to bring me and my team forward every day and to have the feeling of being needed on the pitch.

"I don't want to earn my money sat on the bench, but to be an active part of a story as I was until last year. I hope you can understand.

"BVB are the club of my heart and always will be."

Subotic has been linked with a move to Liverpool, having previously played for boss Jurgen Klopp at Mainz and Dortmund.

The Serbian will be the second defensive departure at Dortmund this summer, with Germany international Mats Hummels having signed for rivals Bayern Munich.
