Manchester United Clyne deal on

Nathaniel Clyne looks set to make the switch to Manchester United in the summer with the player expected to replace Rafael at the back.

Louis van Gaal has been linked with several defensive targets and looks to be adding significant strength to his squad if the rumoured moves become a reality. The move of Clyne to Old Trafford is expected to cost £17million to complete.

The 24-year-old England international has had a breakthrough season that included his first England cap and being part of the Southampton surprise package which at one point placed them second in the Premier League. Clyne however has refused to sign a £45,000-a-week new contract and has revealed that he wants to play for a club with Champions League football.

The report in the Mirror claims that United will offer Javier Hernandez as a carrot to persuade Southampton to let Clyne go. The Red Devils are supposedly willing to offer Hernandez plus cash with Hernandez returning from a loan spell with Real Madrid.

The Mexican striker has had a tough time in La Liga and van Gaal has made it clear that his future is not with Manchester United. The player nicknamed “Little Pea’ had a great opening season but has fallen by the wayside since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Speaking on MUTV Daily Mirror journalist David McDonnell said: "From what I'm told, it's a done deal."
