John Carver - the Premier League's best - needs to go

There are several managers who have done little to strengthen their reputation’s to any great extent this season. But, there has been no one like John Carver for quite some time. Even Tim Sherwood has been less brazen during his time at Tottenham and Aston Villa. Alan Pardew has proven that he is a better manager for Crystal Palace than Neil Warnock was. Tony Pulis has proven that he is immune to taking over a team unable to stay up. Sam Allardyce has shown that he can take a side to Europe, back out of Europe, and perhaps back into Europe via UEFA’s fair play rules. Mauricio Pochettino has shown that he can get his team playing the most attractive and also, at times, the least attractive football in the league. If it sounds like I am being overly critical or unnecessarily critical of these managers I do not intend to. I am simply laying out the very plain facts. So, allow me to continue by saying that John Carver is absolutely out of his mind.

Recently, Carver stated that he believed himself to be the best coach in the Premier League. I cannot say that I have heard a more outlandish statement in my life following the Premier League. If the managers previously mentioned have achieved a bare minimum, in some respects, then I really cannot say what John Carver has achieved. Actually I can. He has succeeded in tarnishing his, frankly, outstanding reputation as a coach prior to becoming interim manager for Newcastle. He might be the only manager in history to keep his job after publicly slating Mike Williamson and calling his red card against Leicester City deliberate. Surely that cost him the dressing room. He has lost eight in a row and it is hard to see where Newcastle’s next point will come from. The reality of going down nears after every week that passes by.

I have written about the Newcastle fans before. They do not deserve anything that has come their way this season. The fact that Carver has come out of the woodwork all of a sudden has only expanded their suffering. Nigel Pearson survived a chokehold on James McArthur and a telling off to his sides’ own fans. Carver looks to have survived his behavior but come the end of the season the Newcastle faithful will be glad to see the back of him and deserve to rejoice in it.
