FIFA 15 Review: The most realistic and intelligent FIFA yet

26 September 2014 11:26

The world's most realistic virtual sporting experience has been given a huge upgrade this year, building on an already solid foundation that sets the standard for EA's sports line-up.

The sheer number of customisable features in FIFA 15 is astounding, meaning players will be able to tailor their own unique footballing experience at the press of a button. But it's the core key features of FIFA 15 that set it apart from it's competition and make it the première football game. The upgraded stadium atmosphere means each stadium will mirror it's real-world counterpart. Crowds chant player names as if you were amongst the crowd at a 4:30 PM Sunday afternoon kick-off. Ball boys react quicker when time is of the essence to reduce time wasting when you're looking for the winning goal. These elements are what FIFA call 'Dynamic Match Presentation,” and it reall does bring the game to life.

Another new feature introduced for FIFA 15 is the “Living Pitch,” this creates a hyper realistic field of play which hasn't been seen in previous versions of the game. As a match progresses players will slide after quickly changing direction and the marks left on the grass don't fade after time. Chunks of grass fly up for a slide tackle and the dislodged tufts of grass remain.

The players in this years FIFA are sharper and more intelligent than ever before. If Madrid's Pepe thunders into Barcelona's Lionel Messi with a heavy challenge, the four time Ballon d'Or winner will let it slide (excuse the pun). But if Pepe goes in for an equally heavy challenge Messi won't be so accommodating, with a confrontation sure to ensue. FIFA claim there are over 600 emotional reactions available for each unique situation players may encounter on the pitch.

Goalkeepers have been given an upgrade this year too, after an outcry from FIFA players last year. Shot stoppers have been completely revamped and now reflect the playing styles of their real-world counterparts. In previous iterations of FIFA keepers we're for me the weak point, with no intelligence. Now though, goalies read the game and recognise danger and react accordingly which adds to the new found realness of EA's flagship title.

Despite trying to find potential weaknesses with FIFA 15, there's not a lot to complain about. Some random AI glitches were about as bad as it got, which is testament to the effort and work EA have pit into this polished game.

To conclude, players can expect all the usual game modes and mini-games from FIFA's past, along with new features and some vast improvements to some traditional weak spots. FIFA 15 succeeds where others have failed by creating the ultimate fan experience. Whether you want European glory or a glittering career with a custom player, FIFA lets you do it all.
