Arsenal active, Falcao to United - Things to expect on Transfer Deadline day 2014

01 September 2014 09:15

Football transfer deadline day is on all football fans calendar. Today at 11 PM the window will slam shut and fans will be left wondering what could have been or be jubilant in their clubs business. It is a day where social media goes crazy with rumours, people claim to have seen players in their local supermarket and others sit in their front room not moving from the TV screen.

No matter who you support it’s a big day whether you support a lower league side who are signing an unproven and unknown name, or a big club who are rumoured to be after one of the big names you are still hoping the deal goes through in time.

I thought I would take a look at things to watch out for on deadline day this year:

Man United last minute deals:

Man United have been rumoured to be getting just about everyone this summer, but only four have been brought in so far, so will they bring in more, will Vidal go to Old Trafford after a whole summer of rumours or will they end up paying over the odds for not so good players? Also it will be interesting to see who leaves the Red Devils with Welbeck, Cleverly and ‘Chicharito’ all supposedly not wanted. There are rumours of 11 players either leaving or arriving at Old Trafford, have United left it too late though?

Falcao to move?

The Colombian striker is unsettled at big money Monaco and it seems is on his way out but where will he end up? It seemed Real Madrid was on the cards a few days ago but now he has been linked with 3 big Premier League clubs Man City, Man United and Arsenal all of which according to different sources have a chance of happening. One thing is for sure if he does move, whoever gets him will have a proven goal scorer on their books.

Arsenal to be active

Arsenal need a striker it’s as simple as that, with Giroud out till 2015 and Sanogo not impressing, Wenger surely needs to dip into the market. Who will that man be though will it be big money Falcao, will they raid League rivals Man city for Negredo, or will it be a signing we do not expect someone out of the blue like Porto’s Jackson Martinez maybe or Sevilla’s Carlos Bacca?

Unexpected Deals

There is bound to be some surprises on deadline day, a signing which no one expects to happen and catches everyone off guard. Who will it be this year, will it be a big name who moves just before the deadline?

Panic buys

This is the last chance for clubs to bring in players until January so they need to make sure there squad is big and good enough, and with this comes the classic ‘panic buy’ when a player is brought in for over his value and he may not be of the best standard, but because they cannot find anyone else this man may be the only option. Classic examples are Marouane Fellani and Andy Carroll.

So who will your club bring in tomorrow will it be the man they have been after all summer or will they be forced to look elsewhere ,or will they end up with no additions? Or maybe the most important thing is to keep your key assets. It will certainly be a day with excitement and event that is for sure.
