The Thailand Tourism Authoritiy are claiming that they have held progressive talks about staging the 2016 Tour De France.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand are claiming that talks with Jean-Etienne Amaury, the chairman of the Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO), the organisers of the Tour De France went well and could lead to some if not all of the race being staged in Thailand instead of France as early as 2016.

Speaking to Reuters, Tourism Authority Thailand boss Thawatchai Arunyik said: "We are still talking with Tour de France organisers but we are looking at the next fiscal year. So it will be 2016, not 2015.

"We're not sure yet how many stages we will hold or whether it is one or two stages or the whole competition. This is something that still needs to be discussed.

"Thailand is the perfect location for this highly prestigious competition, not to mention that cycling as a sport is enjoying enormous popularity here at the moment."
