The Astana rider Valentin Iglinskiy has been sacked by his team for admitting to using EPO.

The 30 year old failed a test for EPO during the Eneco Tour and then admitted to having used the banned substance to his team who have now sacked him.

In a press statement, and subsequently admitting to using the blood boosting substance, the management of the team said: “In its wish for full transparency, Astana Pro Team has refused to defend a rider who failed to respect the rules and ethics as stipulated in his contract and who has failed to behave in a manner consistent with other riders in his team and within professional cycling.

“With the immediate expulsion of Valentin Iglinskiy, the management and staff at Astana Pro Team confirm our commitment to clean cycling without doping.”

Iglinskly has also been suspended by cycle union - Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), following the test result.
