England will name a new look one-day side to take on Ireland on Tuesday, with James Taylor likely to captain in place of Eoin Morgan.
In a quirk of England's packed fixture list the Test squad currently on duty in the West Indies are due to land in London on May 7, just a day before taking on the Irish.
That rules out anyone who features in the Barbados Test later this week, though head coach Peter Moores and deputy Paul Farbrace are planning to head straight from Gatwick to Dublin to link up with the squad.
Moores may yet decide that some of his Caribbean water-carriers can leave early once the third Test begins, putting them in position to face the men in green.
Jonny Bairstow, Mark Wood, Adam Lyth, Liam Plunkett and Adil Rashid have yet to feature in the first two games and if they are deemed surplus to requirements again, places may be kept open for some of them in Tuesday's squad announcement.
James Tredwell is unlikely to be needed now that Moeen Ali is back as first-choice spinner, and could also be freed up to face Ireland.
Morgan, who replaced Alastair Cook as 50-over skipper for the World Cup, is already ruled out having been cleared by the England and Wales Cricket Board to play in the Indian Premier League.
That leaves Nottinghamshire batsman Taylor, who has played just 17 ODIs, as favourite to lead the side.
He made his debut in the same fixture four years ago and could be one of the more experienced heads in the dressing room.
Elsewhere, the England selectors have something of a free rein to pick a dynamic new team.
Alex Hales looks a certainty to feature, with uncapped trio James Vince, Jason Roy and Alex Lees also set to contest the top order batting slots.
Kent wicket-keeper Sam Billings has been identified as one for the future and could be another fast-tracked into the set-up.
Seamers Stuart Broad and James Anderson will be on duty in Barbados and one or both may have played their last ODI as England build towards the 2019 World Cup.
That means the likes of Boyd Rankin, Steven Finn and Tim Bresnan could return to the bowling ranks, with the desire to find a left-armer paceman also counting in Reece Topley's favour.
