Australia moved 2-1 ahead in their one-day series with Sri Lanka as Tillakaratne Dilshan bowed out with a loss.

Dilshan is retiring from the international one-day game and does so with a two-wicket defeat, despite a hundred from Dinesh Chandimal.

Chasing 227 to win, Australia just about got home, George Bailey's 70 the stand-out knock.

He was well supported by Travis Head (36) and Matthew Wade (42), getting to Sri Lanka's total with four overs to spare.

Chandimal's 102 accounted for nearly half of his side's 226 all out, Adam Zampa taking three for 38 and John Hastings two for 41.

"I think it is the right decision, the way I finished my career," Dilshan said afterwards.

"I'm really happy that I contributed in all three departments. I realised that this was time to go - it's not easy after a 17-year career."

There are two games of the series remaining.
