Leg-spinner Fawad Ahmed kept himself in the forefront of Australian selectors' minds with six wickets for Victoria in their Sheffield Shield match in Melbourne on Thursday.
The Pakistan-born wrist-spinner captured six wickets for 68 as Western Australia collapsed in their first innings.
WA were cruising at 218 for three when John Rogers fell five short of a maiden first-class century and sparked a clatter of wickets to be all out for 270, 42 short of Victoria's opening innings of 312.
Ahmed, 31, a former refugee who became an Australian citizen in July after his application was fast-tracked, claimed four wickets in as many overs to rip through the WA tail end.
Ahmed, who has played three ODIs and two T20 internationals for his adopted country, has been kept away from the England tourists in the lead-up matches ahead of the November 21 opening Ashes Test against Australia at Brisbane's Gabba ground.
