Series ends on disappointing note

Bangladesh and South Africa had to settle for a scoreless drawn series after the second Test in Dhaka fell foul of the weather.

Having seen the first Test between them washed out, the sides spent nearly all of this one in the pavilion too and, despite sunshine on Monday morning, the outfield was considered too damaged to play on.

Bangladesh had reached 246 for eight before the heavens opened, with Dale Steyn passing 400 Test wickets for South Africa in the process.

"To have four days rained out is unusual," said South Africa captain Hashim Amla on Cricinfo.

"Whatever happened, happened. The cricket has been tough. We enjoyed our stay here. Dale getting 400 is the highlight for us. We thank the groundstaff, the amount of effort they put in to try and get some play.

"We have got a series against New Zealand to prepare for. Our bowlers really toiled, this was a tough wicket to bowl on. Everybody tried their best. One thing I cannot fault is the effort our team always gives."
