Long-serving Essex duo David Masters and Graham Napier have agreed one-year contract extensions, keeping them at Chelmsford until the end of the 2016 season.

Masters has been with Essex since 2007 and has contributed 376 first-class wickets for the county, enjoying his best year in 2011 when he took 93 scalps to finish the season as the LV= County Championship's leading wicket-taker.

"I'm over the moon to be doing another year at my age," said the 37-year-old. "I still feel I've got plenty to offer, both on the pitch and helping the youngsters.

"I feel I'm still contributing in all formats, and hopefully we can win some trophies to end my career on a high."

Napier, 35, has spent his entire professional career at Essex, with whom he forged a reputation as a big-hitting bowling all-rounder, particularly in the limited-overs formats and a Twenty20 Cup knock of 152 from 58 balls against Sussex in 2008 broke a number of records.

"I am delighted to have signed for another year," he said. "I want to continue to contribute to the side, and hopefully help us to success over the coming years."

Head Coach Paul Grayson added: "I am delighted that both Dave and Graham have signed new deals. Both are top class professionals, who give their all for this club.

"They are excellent role models on and off the pitch for our young players, and I am looking forward to working with the pair of them for at least another two years."
