Billy Godleman has signed a one-year contract extension with Derbyshire that will keep him at the County Ground until the end of 2016.

The opener, who joined the county in 2013, has enjoyed an impressive start to the season scoring 235 runs in three games while registering three half-centuries.

"Billy is currently playing the best cricket of his life," said Derbyshire elite performance director Graeme Welch. "He has done everything we have asked of him during the winter and he's now reaping the benefits.

"He has put in the hard work and continues to improve both as a cricketer and as a person. He's become a leader amongst the team and we hope his form can continue."

The 26-year-old has played in 90 first class games in his career racking up 4,382 runs.
