Edgbaston staff using special lamps

The Edgbaston ground staff are making good use of lamps initially intended to help grow cannabis plants, as they put finishing touches to the outfield for this week's third Ashes Test.

Heavy rain in recent days has left time short to ensure the playing area is exactly as required when the Investec series resumes at 1-1 on Wednesday.

Warwickshire have loaned the lamps from West Midlands Police on several occasions beforehand, most often during the winter months of little natural light.

A club spokesman said: "We have done this a few times - and after a month's worth of rain on Friday, we decided we could do with them again."
