Australia give Peter Nevill nod over Matthew Wade for ICC World Twenty20

Australia have named Test wicket-keeper Peter Nevill in their 15-man squad for the upcoming ICC World Twenty20 in India and dropped regular limited-overs gloveman Matthew Wade.

Australia opted for specialist keeper Nevill, who has not played an ODI or T20 International, in the belief the squad has enough batting depth.

Steve Smith has been named captain ahead of Aaron Finch, who had held the role since October 2014 and who remains in the squad.

On Nevill's inclusion, national selector Rod Marsh said: "We feel our batting depth in this squad is sufficient enough that we can have a specialist wicket-keeper in the squad. We want Australia's best wicket-keeper playing in this tournament and we consider Peter Nevill to be the best in the country right now."

On Smith being captain, Marsh added: "We think now is the right time for Steve to lead Australia in all three forms of the game as it offers us important continuity, not only ahead of the World T20, but beyond that tournament as well.

"Overall, we believe the squad we have selected is well-balanced and has the experience and talent required to be successful in India and help us win the World T20 title for the first time."

Left-arm spinner Ashton Agar, who has not played a T20 for Australia, has also been named in the party.

Finch (hamstring), Nathan Coulter-Nile (shoulder), and James Faulkner (hamstring) have all been included subject to fitness.

Australia kick off their World Twenty20 campaign against New Zealand on March 18.
