Adaptable New Zealand go in search of third World T20 win

Unbeaten New Zealand can put themselves bang on course for the ICC World Twenty20 semi-finals if they win their third successive Group 2 Super 10 match against Pakistan in Mohali.

The Kiwis have been praised for their adaptability in victories already over pre-tournament favourites India and their own big-hitting neighbours Australia.

Pakistan, successful against Bangladesh in their first match but since beaten by a resurgent India, need to put another win on the board to stay in the hunt.

New Zealand began their odyssey in search of this global trophy in the very heart of India, accounting for the hosts in Nagpur.

After heading into the foothills of the Himalayas - where they sent Australia packing from Dharamsala - Kane Williamson's team are back down a few thousand feet again.

Irrespective of altitude, though, they will not be getting ahead of themselves on Tuesday - as coach Mike Hesson has spelled out.

"We certainly are not thinking about the knock-outs yet," he said.

The Black Caps have earned a reputation so far for canny selection, especially when they picked three spinners on a turning pitch in Nagpur.

Hesson added: "Mohali is probably more like New Zealand conditions than perhaps Nagpur and Dharamsala.

"We will pick a side that suits the conditions and the opposition, but won't be thinking too far ahead."

He describes the opposition as "unpredictable, but very skilful".

Veteran Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi is confident his team can live up to the second half of that billing.

"Even before the tournament started, people had written us off," he said.

"Right now, all we can do is perform well. We have to stop repeating small mistakes . there is a time to talk and there is a time to act . (this) is action time."
