Golovkin fight may tempt Froch

Carl Froch is set to be offered a lucrative chance to prolong his boxing career in a stadium super-fight against the sport's rising star Gennady Golovkin.

The 37-year-old Froch has not fought since his rematch win over George Groves at Wembley in May and has been widely expected to announce his retirement.

But Froch's promoter Eddie Hearn is convinced he could still tempt Froch with a final fight against the big-hitting reigning world middleweight champion.

Hearn told BBC Radio Five Live: "Carl Froch doesn't know if he will fight again, let alone if he will fight Golovkin.

"It is a fight that certainly gets bigger every time Gennady Golovkin enters the ring and there comes a time when the fight becomes too big to ignore.

"I don't think we're necessarily there yet, but if Carl Froch is going to fight again that is the fight that is going to create the most interest and probably the most money for Carl Froch."

Kazakhstan-born Golovkin has won all 33 of his professional fights with 30 victories coming inside the distance. He stopped American Willie Monroe in his latest title defence in California last week.

Froch had hoped to finish his career with a fight in Las Vegas but a prospective bout with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr fell through, while he has shown no interest in facing British rival James DeGale.

Hearn indicated he had been talking with Golovkin's promoter Tom Loeffler and said he believed he would soon be in a position to offer the fight to Froch.

Hearn added: "Once we know the deal is on the table to fight Golovkin, we'll have a sit down with Carl and say, 'this is what's on the table - do you want it?'

"It really comes down to his desire and hunger to fight again."
