Valencia Eyeing Crystal Palace Stopper Vicente Guaita With Spaniard Keen on Move

Valencia are monitoring their former goalkeeper Vicente Guaíta, with the Crystal Palace stopper said to be keen on a return to La Liga.

Los Che's current no.1 Jasper Cillessen, who only arrived at Valencia from Barcelona at the start of this season, has been extensively linked to a return to the Netherlands with former club Ajax, where he won three league titles.

According to Spanish newspaper La Razón, the possibility of his departure has reportedly led Valencia to consider Guaíta as a cut-price replacement for the Dutchman.

The report claims that Guaíta has been specifically identified as a cheaper option should Valencia be priced out of moves for their preferred targets.

Valencia have shown interest in Levante's Aitor Fernández, Alavés glovesman Fernando Pacheco, and Barcelona's Neto, another former goalkeeper, but the three stoppers are all valued at above the €20m mark.

Guaíta's own contract expires in the summer of 2021, thus making him an affordable alternative, and he is said to be eager for such a move.

The Spaniard has been in fine form this season with his side sitting comfortably in 11th place, and Valencia are not the only side that he has been linked with, with West Ham, Manchester City and Chelsea mentioned elsewhere as admirers of the 33-year-old.

His nine clean sheets, ahead of the likes of David de Gea, Rui Patricio and Hugo Lloris, put him joint-third in the English top-flight among his peers.

Guaita most memorably drew plaudits this season for a remarkable double save during Palace's 1-1 draw with Arsenal, where having initially flicked the ball onto the post he subsequently smothered the rebound.
