Twitter reacts as PSG stun Bayern and Chelsea take a grip on their tie with Porto

As if one night of enthralling Champions League football wasn't enough to banish the memories of a boring international break, Wednesday night threw up another absolute barnstormer.

We only had to wait a few minutes to be treated to our opening goal of the night, as Kylian Mbappe fired Paris Saint-Germain ahead in their clash with Bayern Munich thanks to some suspect goalkeeping from Manuel Neuer.

To be fair to the German, he wasn't helped by the fact the Allianz Arena resembled a scene from Cool Runnings as the snow began to pour, but the good folk of Twitter didn't really take that into account.

As Bayern began to get a foothold in the game PSG struck once again, with Neymar's inch-perfect ball carving Die Roten's defence wide open, allowing Marquinhos the simple task of slotting past the stranded Neuer.

The Brazilian midfielder departed shortly after doubling his side's lead having picked up a knock, but his 30 minute cameo was certainly one to remember.

Our attention turned to Porto's clash with Chelsea shortly after, as Mason Mount produced a piece of quality not in keeping with a first half hour that had resembled a bunch of dads having a kickabout down the local part after a night on the ale.

The England man's sublime turn left himself with just Agustin Marchesin to beat and he made no mistake in drilling his side into a 1-0 lead.

And then then came the big one. The moment we'd all been waiting for.

Ben Chilwell doubled Chelsea's lead with five minutes to go as Thomas Tuchel's side too a firm grip on their tie with Porto, but the eyes of the world were firmly fixed on just one game as it headed towards the final 20 minutes, and it certainly didn't disappoint.

The European champions against the wannabees of European football. The wily, experienced heads of Bayern Munich against the young, twinkle-toed starlets of PSG. Who would it be? We soon had our answer.

Mbappe has found himself shoved into imaginary duels quite a lot recently - as the rest of desperately try and shoehorn him into any narrative possible - and so far he's making a pretty decent habit of coming out on top. He did it again on Wednesday night.
