Turkey manager Şenol Güneş has confirmed that Leicester City centre-back Çağlar Söyüncü was sidelined during October's international break with an injury.

Söyüncü joined Leicester from German side Freiburg in the summer of 2018 for £19m, and has largely served as Harry Maguire's replacement in the heart of the Foxes' defence after the England international's departure to Manchester United the following year.

The 24-year-old couldn't add to his tally of 30 caps in this month's international break, missing out on all three of Turkey's fixtures. After being omitted from the squad which faced Germany in a friendly, Söyüncü was left on the bench for Turkey's Nations League meeting with Russia.

In a press conference prior to Turkey's meeting with Serbia on Wednesday, Güneş revealed (via the Turkish outlet Hürriyet) that Söyüncü had suffered a hamstring injury.

Before receiving a red card against Bournemouth in mid-July, Söyüncü had only been rested for one Premier League game last season. Leicester's imposing number four is yet to miss a minute of the current league campaign but may be forced to sit out Sunday's home match against Aston Villa.

Söyüncü is not the only regular Brendan Rodgers could very well be without when Dean Smith's high-flying Aston Villa - fresh from their 7-2 rout against the reigning Premier League champions - travel to the King Power Stadium.

Wilfred Ndidi started the season alongside Söyüncü at centre-back but suffered an abductor injury during Leicester's 4-2 win over Burnley which could keep him out for up to 12 weeks.

Ndidi made a remarkably quick recovery from a knee injury last season but Leicester's right-back Ricardo Pereira is still sidelined with a cruciate ligament rupture. Pereira last appearance for the Foxes came back in March, when Rodgers' side were safely sat in third place before ultimately dropping down to fifth in his absence.
