Exclusive - Tottenham Hotspur have made it clear to Harry Kane and his representatives that the only deal they're willing to discuss this summer is a new contract.
Manchester United, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are clubs that have all held a longstanding interest in Kane, whose future at Spurs has become the subject of increased uncertainty in recent weeks.
There are worries that the England captain is frustrated over a lack of progress at Spurs over the last couple of years and 90min understands he has voiced those concerns.
Kane is annoyed by the prospect of not playing Champions League football for a second consecutive season, but the greater source of his frustration is the club’s failure to mount a serious challenge for the Premier League title – were Spurs in a title race, a top four place would come anyway.
Spurs peaked at second place during 2016/17 but, despite reaching the Champions League final in 2019, they have gone backwards since then, finishing on fewer and fewer points each season.
Kane has been in talks with Spurs over a potential pay rise to the long-term contract, worth in excess of £200,000-a-week, he signed in 2018, but his advisers have also made it known to chairman Daniel Levy that they would like the club to consider any bids they receive this summer.
However, Tottenham sources have told 90min that Levy has been clear that he has no intention to listen to offers. Spurs are instead confident that Kane will stay and the club’s stance is that he is not for sale, even if an offer of £150m was to come in.
That lofty figure might have previously tempted a buyer, but the loss in revenue caused by the global coronavirus pandemic has seen transfer budgets slashed across the board - meaning a deal, for any club, is simply not viable.
The reason that Kylian Mbappe could go for less than £150m this summer is because he will soon have only one year left on his contract, leaving PSG few options if he’s looking to leave. But Kane still has another three years left on his deal and if Levy and Spurs are adamant that he won’t be sold, there is very little that the player or his entourage can do to change anything.
Levy has at least tried to assure Kane that things will improve at Spurs, although any progress made may not be under current head coach Jose Mourinho. The three-time Premier League winner's job is far from secure - owing to the club's dip in results since November - with Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers among the leading candidates to take over.
