Tottenham Closing on £15m Signing of Southampton's Pierre-Emile Højbjerg

Tottenham are expected to finalise the £15m signing of Pierre-Emile Højbjerg in the coming days, with Kyle Walker-Peters heading the other way to Southampton.

Jose Mourinho and the Lilywhites have long been admirers of the Dane, and it appears they've fought off interest from Everton - who'd reportedly agreed a £25m fee with the Saints for the midfielder - to secure the 24-year-old's services this summer.

The Telegraph reports that a £15m deal has been discussed between the clubs this week and Spurs have 'agreed the outline of the package' to sign Højbjerg - who's keen on a move to N17. Thus, personal terms aren't expected to be an issue.

The former Saints skipper has just one year left on his current deal at St. Mary's and has already made it known that he wants to join a club competing in Europe.

A fine, albeit often painful, run of form following the Premier League's resumption in June saw Mourinho's side surged up to sixth in the table, meaning they'll compete in next season's Europa League. Although, Arsenal's FA Cup triumph means the Lilywhites will enter the competition at the second qualifying round phase.

Nevertheless, this is a move Tottenham are crying out for. The lack of a defensive midfielder in their squad is distinct and the addition of a player of Højbjerg's profile certainly solves a plethora of their issues and could potentially pick the Tanguy Ndombele lock in north London.

Højbjerg's not the only deal these clubs would like to get done soon, though. Talks have also been progressing regarding a separate £12m deal for the permanent switch of Kyle-Walker Peters to the south coast.

Opportunities were hard to come by for Walker-Peters at Spurs, but he impressed in his brief loan stint to round off the campaign.

It appears that Tottenham's interest in acquiring Højbjerg has handed the advantage to Southampton in the race for the 23-year-old, with West Ham emerging as a potential suitor for the young right-back as well.
