Krasnodar 0-4 Chelsea: Player Ratings as Blues Claim Comfortable Away Win

Chelsea recorded their first win of the 2020/21 Champions League season with a 4-0 victory over Krasnodar at the Krasnodar Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Jorginho missed a first half penalty but his blushes were spared by Matvei Safonov bundling home Callum Hudson-Odoi's weak effort at goal. Timo Werner then made no mistake from the spot when he was given the chance, with Hakim Ziyech then topping off a solid individual display ten minutes from the end.

There was still time for a fourth, as Christian Pulisic added gloss with a stoppage time drive.

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Edouard Mendy (GK) - 7/10 - Quiet night for the Frenchman who had a couple of tame efforts to deal with but little else. Passed it to Zouma about 900 times, mind.

Cesar Azpilicueta (RB) - 7/10 - The most adventurous of the back four, with the other three very content to play among each other and unwilling to carry the ball.

Kurt Zouma (CB) - 6/10 - Took a few knocks over the course of the game with some meaty challenges, and while his approach didn't stretch much beyond feeding Azpilicueta and Rudiger, he did okay.

Antonio Rudiger (CB) - 6/10 - Passing was sluggish and uninventive, almost always seeking the easy option which, while not necessarily bad, didn't provide much in the way of excitement.

Ben Chilwell (LB) - 5/10 - Passive, weak in challenges and just coasting through the game, Chilwell offered almost nothing in both an attacking and defensive sense on Wednesday night.

2. Midfielders

Jorginho (CM) - 5/10 - Missed the penalty in the first half with his classic skipping style, and after that was mostly a passenger - especially in the second half where Krasnodar gained control of midfield.

Kai Havertz (AM) - 6/10 - Made a couple of trademark deep runs into the box in the first half but his influence, what there was of it in the first place, became non-existent after the break.

Mateo Kovacic (CM) - 5/10 - Just like the Italian, Kovacic could not get a stranglehold on midfield, or offer anything of note, across the game as the Russians pushed for an equaliser before eventually falling further behind.

3. Forwards

Hakim Ziyech (RW) - 8/10 - Chelsea's liveliest and all-round best performer on the night. On his first start for the club, Ziyech pressed well, tried to create and was happy to drop deep to link play. A player who switches the play brilliantly in forward areas. Got the goal he deserved.

Timo Werner (ST) - 5/10 - Didn't get a sniff. Managed to win a penalty in the opening period (and score a penalty) as well as running the channels, but he was starved of anything noteworthy on a frustrating night for the German. Good for him that Jorginho went off before the spot-kick.

Callum Hudson-Odoi (LW) - 6/10 - May have scored, but it was immensely fortuitous and Hudson-Odoi really struggled to make any impact in forward areas. Had more than a few wasteful touches in possession.
