James Maddison Quells Transfer Speculation (Again) as He Vows to 'Win Trophies' With Leicester

James Maddison has revealed he has an empty trophy cabinet at home - and wants to fill it by silverware in a Leicester shirt.

Maddison has been a standout performer for the Foxes since joining from Norwich City in 2018, and has hit the back of the net nine times in all competitions this season. He is steadily improving year after year and is one of the most highly sought-after talents in the English game, but by his sixth season as a senior pro, he is yet to experience winning a trophy.

He was part of the Leicester side who lost to Aston Villa in the EFL Cup semi-finals earlier this year and had harboured hopes of FA Cup glory, with an FA Cup quarter-final tie with Chelsea waiting in the wings, and that is one Maddison hopes he will get to play at some stage.

"It has only really come in the last year or two, but my biggest goal now is to win trophies," he told PUMA Football's Instagram.

"In my house I have a trophy cabinet and there are not many in there. There are individual awards but no trophies. I want trophies.

"When we lost over two legs to Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup semi-finals, it is a feeling I have never had before and that's when I knew something has to change. It was heartbreaking. Fingers crossed I can now make that next step.

"We have Chelsea in the FA Cup quarter-finals and hopefully we get to play that.

"My mouth gets wet when I walk around the Leicester training ground and the stadium and see the pictures of them winning the league and hear the players talk about it."

It would be easy to read those quotes as a subtle hint at a move away from the King Power Stadium - pay attention, Manchester United - but 90min's understanding since April has been that Leicester are optimistic about extending the 23-year-old's contract.

And it seems he's in no rush to leave either. Speaking last month, he got straight to the point when asked if he planned to stay at Leicester.

"Of course I am. It's one of the best decisions I made coming here. I love it," he said.

"I feel right at home at Leicester. I feel like part of the furniture already and I love it here."

There's no twisting those words, that's for sure.
