Footballers got involved with the rest of the United Kingdom population on Thursday night as people stopped what they were doing at 8pm to show their appreciation for NHS staff, healthcare workers and carers with a nationwide round of applause.

As part of the #ClapForTheNHS and #ClapForCarers movement, the Wembley arch even turned blue in support of those fighting on the frontlines of the coronavirus pandemic.

“Happy to be able to come together with the whole country to thank the brave healthcare workers and our brilliant NHS working tirelessly in the fight against COVID-19,” former England captain David Beckham posted on Instagram alongside a video clapping with his family.

“Heroes. Every single one of you,” was the message from Liverpool.

Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire described the moment as 'special' and urged the NHS to 'keep doing us proud' in these extremely difficult times.

Spurs players made sure they gave their support as well.
