Gareth Bale's agent has revealed that his client's transfer from Real Madrid to Tottenham is 'close' but 'complicated'.
Bale has long been a marginalised figure at the Santiago Bernabeu and has been linked with moves to several different clubs over the last few years.
His latest suitors are former club Spurs who are reportedly interested in taking the winger on a subsidised loan this season. The player is believed to open to the move back to north London.
Bale's agent, Jonathan Barnett, confirmed the speculation to AFP (via Sky Sports) that negotiations between the two clubs are well underway, revealing: "It's close but not done. It's a complicated deal."
While Spurs are looking to complete a loan move, Real would prefer to have the Welshman off their books permanently. According to Spanish outlet El Confidencial (via Sport Witness), Los Blancos want to reach an agreement with Bale over the mutual termination of his contract.
Either way, an compromise would need to be reached over Bale's colossal wages. The 31-year-old currently earns a staggering £600,000-per-week pre-tax, despite featuring sporadically in recent seasons.
It is understood that in a worst case scenario, his current employers would be willing to pay half of his wages while he is out on loan. Several other Premier League clubs have held informal discussion with Bale but for the moment Spurs seem to be leading the race for his signature.
The four time Champions League winner spent six seasons at Tottenham between 2007 and 2013. During that time he made 203 appearances, scoring 56 goals and also scooping back to back PFA Player of the Year awards in 2011 and 2012.
Spurs boss José Mourinho is keen to bolster his squad with his side set to endure a congested season. Due to their involvement in the Europa League, Tottenham will be competing on no less than four fronts, which is bound to put a strain on the players.
