Everton 0-1 Leeds: Player Ratings as Raphinha Goal Earns Marcelo Bielsa's Side a Crucial Win

28 November 2020 11:09

A late Raphinha strike secured Leeds United their first ever win at Goodison Park, as Marcelo Bielsa's men moved up to 11th place in the Premier League.

After a first-half in which both sides traded blows, the Brazilian applied the finishing touch to condemn Carlo Ancelotti's side to their fourth defeat in five.

For large parts, it looked set to be a case of groundhog day for Leeds as they peppered the Everton goal with little reward, just as they had done against Arsenal the week before. Leeds had always looked the more fluid and cohesive unit in the final third, even if Everton had their chances.

The question was whether they could make their pressure count, and Raphinha provided the answer.

Everton

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Jordan Pickford (GK) - 7/10 - The man usually defined by his moments of madness kept Everton in the game tonight. Denied Bamford with his legs in the first-half before clawing away a looping Raphinha header.

Michael Keane (CB) - 5/10 - A ropey performance in his 100th Premier League game for Everton.

Mason Holgate (CB) - 5/10 -
Never quite looked settled in the face of the Leeds onslaught.

Ben Godfrey (CB) - 5/10 -
Cleared off the line from Jack Harrison in the first-half but was part of a backline that struggled to cope with Leeds' movement in the final third.

2. Midfielders

Tom Davies (RWB) - 6/10 - A tidy performance at right-wing back, if lacking thrust at times.

Allan (CM) - 7/10 - Brought the heat to the midfield in what was a characteristically industrious display.

Abdoulaye Doucoure (CM) - 5/10 - Cumbersome and sloppy with his passing in the final third.

Alex Iwobi (LWB) - 5/10 - Looked uncomfortable as a makeshift wing-back.

3. Forwards

James Rodriguez (RW) - 7/10 - Connected Everton's attacking play well, and was unlucky to have a goal disallowed in the first half. Set-piece delivery was sublime, as always.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (ST) - 6/10 -
Held the ball up adeptly but was unable to add to his tally of 10 league goals.

Richarlison (LW) - 5/10 - The Brazilian spurned a number of high-quality chances in what was a profligate display. Headed home what he thought was Everton's opener in the first-half before the goal was ruled out for offside.

5. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Illan Meslier (GK) - 6/10 - Produced a series of fine stops to keep the scores level in the first half, but was guilty of a few nervous moments as the game progressed.

Ezgjan Alioski (LB) -7/10 - A bundle of energy down the left-flank, bombing forward with pace.

Robin Koch (CB) - 7/10 - Played a big part in keeping Leeds' second clean sheet in a row.

Liam Cooper (CB) - 6/10 - The captain organised the defence well, even if his side conceded a fair few chances.

Luke Ayling (RB) - 7/10 - Took a blow to the ribs early on, but made his presence felt down the left flank in his 400th league appearance.

6. Midfielders

Kalvin Phillips (CDM) -7/10 - Progressed the ball forward effectively in what was a solid display.

Stuart Dallas (CM) - 6/10 - A quiet, unspectacular performance from the Northern Ireland international.

Mateusz Klich (CM) - 7/10 - Combined well with his team-mates in the final third.

7. Forwards

Raphinha (RM) - 9/10 - The match-winner. Crowned a vivacious display with a pinpoint strike from the edge of the box to secure his side the three points.

Patrick Bamford (ST) - 5/10 -
Not quite his ruthless Premier League self at Goodison Park.

Jack Harrison (LM) - 5/10 - "Could have had a hat-trick in the first half," according to Graham Souness on Sky Sports. Diverted a gilt-edged opportunity around the post, and was then denied by the woodwork with a header.
