Crystal Palace are in talks with goalkeeper Vicente Guaita regarding a contract extension for the Spaniard.

The player's current deal at Selhurst Park expires at the end of the season, but it is understood that the club have an option to extend it by another year if they wish.

However, it is believed that Palace would prefer to negotiate a fresh contract with the goalkeeper, in the hope of keeping him at the club for the foreseeable future.

The Evening Standard report that Crystal Place have begun contract negotiations with the player, after an heroic performance on Sunday afternoon against Jose Mourinho's Tottenham at Selhurst Park.

Guaita was to thank as Palace managed to hang on to a point against the Premier League leaders. The Spaniard came up with a series of fantastic saves - most notably later on in the game, firstly from a Harry Kane header and then an Eric Dier free kick moments later.

Speaking after the game, his manager, Roy Hodgson said: "Vicente showed his true class because we gave away a couple of free-kicks that we weren't too happy to have given away. And that's when Vicente had to show his true class. He made two magnificent saves."

Hodgson went on to say: "The goalkeeper's a very important part of every team and we are very fortunate that we've got a good one.”

Guaita's outstanding performance was his 67th Premier League appearance for Palace, and he has kept 18 clean sheets and made 212 saves to date.

Palace will once again rely on his ability as they go into the midweek round of Premier League fixtures. On Wednesday night the Eagles travel to in-form West Ham who sit sixth in the table.
