Chelsea planning £80m Jadon Sancho bid this summer

Chelsea are planning an £80m bid for Borussia Dortmund forward and long-term Manchester United target Jadon Sancho.

After a slow start to the season, the forward has returned to his mercurial best more recently, scoring twice and providing an assist as Dortmund beat RB Leipzig 4-1 in the DFB Pokal final. His two assists in his side's most recent win over Mainz took him to 21 for the season and he has also managed an impressive 16 goals.

Impressed by his resurgence, the Sun report that Chelsea are ready to step up their interest by submitting an £80m bid. Manager Thomas Tuchel is thought to be a massive fan, although he does already have plenty of options out wide.

Hakim Ziyech, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic are all capable of operating in Sancho's right forward berth, meaning one of them would likely have to depart to make room for the England international.

Chelsea are set to face intense competition from United as well. The club have been confident of signing Sancho as far back as autumn 2019, but they were put off last summer by Dortmund's refusal to budge on their asking price in excess of £100m.

90min understands that United remain firmly committed to signing Sancho, with the right wing being a problem position for them for many seasons. Personal terms have been agreed and even the re-signing of veteran forward Edinson Cavani has not affected United's desire to sign the young talent.

In terms of asking price, Dortmund acknowledge that the pandemic makes it hard for clubs to pay over £100m. Saying that, if Sancho has a good Euro 2020 they are likely to still demand a fee of that size again this summer. The former Manchester City youngster's current deal will expire in 2023, meaning Dortmund are under more pressure to sell than in previous windows.
