Barcelona have agreed terms for Ajax full-back Sergino Dest, opting to sign him over Norwich City's Max Aarons.

19-year-old Dest enjoyed a breakthrough campaign last season, making 36 appearances in all competitions and laying on six assists.

His performances have earned him a reputation as one of the most promising young right-backs on the planet and he is set to link up with his Barça teammates soon. Ajax informed Dest he was free to leave earlier this summer and a source has told 90min that €20m (£18.4m) deal has been agreed.

The United States international - who has been capped three times - has attracted interest from Bayern Munich and Chelsea in the past but Barça were always leading the race.

His arrival coincides with Nelson Semedo sealing his Camp Nou departure. The defender has secured a move to Wolves, adding to the Premier League side's already sizeable contingent of Portuguese players. 90min understands Barcelona are using his transfer fee in order to finance a move for Dest.

The youngster's arrival also marks the end of recent Barça's interest in Norwich starlet Aarons.

The 20-year-old featured 36 times for Daniel Farke's relegated Canaries during the 2019/2020 Premier League season, registering two assists. Despite his meagre output, the Catalan giants' interest in Aarons was genuine, though he was also considered second choice to Dest.

Sources close to the England Under-21 star have revealed that he was flattered by the Catalan side's interest and he has not yet given up on securing a move away from Carrow Road during the current transfer window. Manchester City are very keen on the player, who they first started scouting back in 2018. However, the Citizens are currently prioritising signing a new centre-back.
