AC Milan eyeing January move for Wilfried Zaha

AC Milan are considering a January move for Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha as they look to strengthen their push for the Serie A title.

I Rossoneri currently sit top of the league table, ten points ahead of champions Juventus having played one game more, and they are yet to taste defeat in the league this season.

However, with city rivals Inter just one point behind, Milan know they cannot take their foot off the gas, and The Sun claim that club officials see a January move for Zaha as the ideal way to keep the good times rolling.

Zaha has transitioned into a central striker this season and has led his side with a tally of eight goals and two assists in 14 appearances, and Milan are understood to have been impressed with the Ivory Coast international.

Milan boss Stefano Pioli sees Zaha as 'the missing piece of the puzzle' and is said to believe that signing the 28-year-old would help his team get over the line and lift their first league title since 2011.

However, any deal is in its early stages at the minute. Palace remain hesitant to sanction his departure unless they receive an astronomical offer, but Zaha's desire to leave for a top side has been clear for at least 18 months.

Zaha remains under contract until 2023, so Palace do not exactly find themselves under pressure to sell and they are free to demand a huge fee again - something which Calciomercato do not believe Milan will bite on.

The belief is that Milan want to find some extra cover for 39-year-old Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but positive performances from Ante Rebic and Rafael Leao have left club officials adamant that big money will not be spent unless a crazy bargain surfaces.

Targets like Gianluca Scamacca of Sampdoria or Arkadiusz Milik of Napoli have both been ruled out, with Milan preferring to strike deals like a potential loan for Real Madrid's Luka Jovic or a cut-price move for Lyon's Memphis Depay.

It's suggested that Milan will only spend big if somebody like 21-year-old PSV Eindoven star Donyell Malen becomes available, and that means a move for Zaha looks fairly unlikely.
