World number 58 Victor Estrella Burgos booked his place in the second round of the Ecuador Open in Quito.
Fifth-seed Burgo eased past Argentinian Guido Pella 6-4 6-4 in one hour and 16 minutes to set up a second-round clash with qualifier Andrej Martin.
Martin saw off Marcel Granollers 7-6 6-2 in his first-round clash while there were also comfortable wins for Paolo Lorenzi and Albert Ramos-Vinolas.
Lorenzi swept Gonzalo Escobar aside 6-1 6-2 and Ramos-Vinolas beat Dusan Lajovic 6-4 7-6.
American Rajeev Ram beat Horacio Zeballos 6-4 7-6 while Joao Souza knocked out Facundo Arguello 6-3 7-6.
Wednesday sees the big guns of the tournament make their first appearance, with top seed Bernard Tomic beginning against Roberto Carballes Baena.
