Top seed Venus Williams secured the 49th singles title of her illustrious career with victory over Misaki Doi in the final of the inaugural Taiwan Open on Sunday.

Neither player had dropped a set on the way to the final but it was Williams who maintained her perfect record with a 6-4 6-2 victory in an hour and 26 minutes in Kaohsiung.

The 35-year-old American, who lost in the first round of the Australian Open last month, broke her second seeded opponent three times in each set.

"It's wonderful to have women's tennis here. It's been too long, it's the first time in 22 years," Williams said in a courtside interview quoted on www.dnaindia.com. "It's my first time in Taiwan, so thank you for making me feel so welcome and thank you for making me feel at home."
